Our strength lies in the passion and creativity each member brings to Finvaa. Founded through friendship and a shared love for nature, we work together to bring small living worlds into everyday spaces.

Adnan Khandaker leads Finvaa as CEO, guiding the vision and creative direction of the brand. Sumaya Shimu Priya manages sales and customer experience, while Ida Laine oversees operations. Priya and Ida mainly design and handcraft our terrariums with care, creativity, and attention to every detail.

Together, we share one mission — bringing nature closer to people, one terrarium at a time.

Our Story

Finvaa began with a simple walk through a Finnish forest at Espoo.

It was the end of autumn in Helsinki. The trees were slowly losing their leaves, the air carried that familiar cold silence of approaching winter, and the forest around us looked beautifully fragile. As we walked beneath the pale branches, our friend Ida Laine paused for a moment and said,

“It’s sad how trees have to let their leaves go every year. What if we could hold onto that feeling of green all year round?”

That small question stayed with us.

Priya then shared something he had once experimented with out of pure curiosity — a tiny ecosystem inside a glass container called a terrarium. A living piece of nature that could survive and thrive indoors, even during the darkest Nordic winters. The idea fascinated all of us instantly.

A few months later, in January, Ida’s birthday was approaching. We wanted to gift her something meaningful — something alive, personal, and connected to that autumn conversation. We searched across stores and online markets but couldn’t find any terrariums that truly felt natural, artistic, or thoughtfully made.

So we decided to make them ourselves.

Using simple glass jars at home, moss, stones, soil, and tiny plants, Adnan and Priya spent evenings carefully crafting two handmade terrariums. It was experimental, imperfect, and honestly created more from passion than confidence.

But something unexpected happened.

At Ida’s birthday gathering, those terrariums became the center of attention. Guests were curious, excited, and full of questions. Many people had never even heard of terrariums before. Some saw them as miniature forests, others as living art, and many simply loved the feeling they brought into the room during the middle of winter.

People kept asking:

“Where can we buy one?”
“Who made these?”
“Why aren’t these more common here?”

That evening, after everyone had left, the three of us sat together surrounded by empty cups, candlelight, and two tiny green worlds inside glass jars. Ida looked at us and said,

“Maybe this is something we should build together.”

And somehow, it immediately felt right.

Finvaa was never started only as a business idea. It began as a shared feeling — the desire to keep nature close, even during the coldest seasons. What started from curiosity and friendship slowly grew into a passion for creating calm, living spaces inside homes and workplaces.

Today, every terrarium we create still carries that original idea:
bringing a small piece of nature into everyday life.
